About Me

When we were assigned this project, I thought OMG what should I write about but I found a way to complete my assignment by writing about anything that can to mind but most of all you can expect a description of artist that I admire or artist I see working really hard or something. While on the side I might talk about hot topics or write about my farewells to high school that pretty much it.

Bob Marley

Robert Marley, better known as Bob Marley, is indeed one of the greatest that ever lived. Known for his singer, songwriting and musical skills, he has managed to put Jamaica and reggae on the global map.

Bob was born to Norval and Cedella Marley on February 6th, 1945 in the St. Ann's Parish, Jamaica. Marley was bi-racial which lead to questions about his identity within himself.

"I don't have prejudice against meself. My father was a white and my mother was black. Them call me half-caste or whatever. Me don't dip on nobody's side. Me don't dip on the black man's side nor the white man's side. Me dip on God's side, the one who create me and cause me to come from black and white."(Taken from Wikipedia.com)

Just like Bob Marley, I am a believer in God. Although I am not rastafarian, I share some of the same principles as a Rasafarian.

When I listen to his music I usually think about my roots and where I came from. I also begin to appreicate life and the country Africa. His music expresses the struggles and obstacles of Africans in the destress of the West. Songs like "Buffalo Solider", and "Redemtion Song" make me think in a deeper sense.

"Emancipate yourself from MENTAL SLAVERY non but ourselves can free our minds."

This lyric was taken from the song "Redemtion Song", this quote is significant because African-American people in particular dwell on situations from the pass that bind them their future. Ihink that in more if not all of Bob Marley's music he is sending a message that message to us, move on.

Apart from his lyrics, his music is extremely catchy. I love to hear the guitars, percussions, bass, piano, vocals and everyhing put into the songs.
